Linden Garden - Notting Hill
Natralight was chosen to help transform a tired townhouse in Notting Hill in London, into contemporary luxury apartments with sliding rooflights.
The aim of the project was to create a light, airy and open-plan living space with contemporary residential architecture and a 21st-century twist.
Located in the tree-lined cul-de-sac within the Pembridge conservation area of west London, the building was originally five storeys and had been unoccupied for a period when many of its rooms had been converted for multiple occupancy use and left in a condition of disrepair.
Once planning permission was granted work began in November 2015 to create four apartments within the property.
Ross Coathup, project and design manager from lead contractor Fruition Properties said of the project,
"The design vision is to create light and transparency within the existing Victorian facade that encompasses the new interconnected spaces and fuses with the traditional aspects of the building.
"Primarily, we wanted to facilitate the contemporary requirements of modern living standards - more open-plan, spatial requirements. We wanted to move away from the smaller, enclosed rooms that were traditional when the building was first designed to have lots of light and space. Glass and other reflective surfaces are among the things that can make that happen."
External facades on Linden Garden including window apertures were left intact, whereas sliding sash windows were replaced to maximise the amount of natural light entering the property. Elsewhere a mechanical sliding roof light (installed by Natralight) was fitted above the central staircase from the third to fourth floor bathing the rooms below with sunlight whilst providing ventilation and access.
The Linden Gardens property was also shortlisted as a finalist for Sunday Times British Home Awards.
Monica Khiroya, Product and Marketing Director at Fruition Properties, added,
“Notting Hill has long been revered as one of the capital’s most sought after residential postcodes and with this comes a certain expectation, particularly with new or converted projects.
"We are absolutely thrilled to have been commended and shortlisted for the British Homes Awards, one of the most coveted awards ceremonies in the design, development and architectural industry.”
